"Meet a Member" webinar: Thursday 31st August at 7pm

Flooding, electric fencing and sneaky butterflies ... a wide range of topics were covered on a virtual tour of Fiona Murdoch's property in the Mallee.

Fiona Murdoch and Family

Thanks to those who tuned in for our first “Meet a Member” webinar, held on Thursday 31st August. Our Secretary, Fiona Murdoch, took us on a virtual tour of her 490 hectare property called Raakajlim in the Mallee, which is protected by a Trust for Nature conservation covenant.

Managed with her family (husband Phil, daughter Emily and pooch Jazz), Fiona touched on a range of issues and highlights they encounter including:

  • Obtaining grants and building 13km of electric fencing to exclude kangaroos, pigs and goats
  • The highs and lows of flooding
  • An endangered species of butterfly and their sneaky relationship with Sugar Ants
  • Getting creative with revegetation techniques to combat the challenges of climate change.

This was one of our initiatives to help build connections between members, and without driving long distances! If you missed this webinar we encourage you to check out Fiona’s website Mallee Conservation and her slides are also available to download here.

We were delighted to receive positive feedback from members after the event (shared below) and look forward to organising the next webinar soon.

"I find it fascinating learning about other people's experiences as the journey is never straight forward and every property is different."

"Thank you so much we loved the night - so great to be around like minded people."
