"Hot Topic" webinar on Gadgets and Technology: 25th June 2024

How do you find pygmy possums and feather gliders? What on earth is a PUC? And which torch reigns supreme?

Our members had all the answers in our first Hot Topic webinar on Gadgets and Technology.

You can never have too many torches.

Thanks to those who tuned in for our first “Hot Topic” webinar, held on Tuesday 25th June 2024. If you missed out, watch the recording below where we heard from a range of members and their experience with the gadgets and technology they use on their conservation properties.

They spoke about:

  • Finding pygmy possums and feather gliders with thermal scanners/scopes/binoculars
  • Mapping and monitoring weeds and threatened species with EpiCollect
  • A continuous portable bird detector - BirdWeather PUC (Portable Universe Codec)
  • Satellite imagery from Copernicus Browser - monitoring change on large properties
  • Seeing tiny things - clip on macro lens and fancy microscopes
  • Spotlighting for critters - which torch reigns supreme?

Our presentation slides are also available to download here

We were delighted to receive positive feedback from members after the event (shared below) and look forward to organising the next webinar soon. If you have any ideas for future topics, we'd love to hear from you!

Great hosts and terrific to hear from actual users of the tech. I took away something from all the presentations, so good to hear from multiple people as well. Fantastic to hear of peoples' experience with the various bit of tech.
I will be sending the recording around to some people as reference material.
