Clive Carlyle

Covenanted property: “Morwell” 145ha, Fyans Creek, Northern Grampians Shire.

Interest: Clive has always had a deep interest in, and passion for, exploring and protecting the natural world. Currently this is very much focused on managing his property to enhance biodiversity values, with a particular focus on wetland restoration, feral predator control, and targeted revegetation.

Bio: Clive has a background in science leadership, formerly with CSIRO, culminating as Assistant Chief of CSIRO Forestry and then Sustainable Ecosystems. Personal research focused on forest ecology and biogeochemistry. Senior science leadership roles focused on understanding and managing forests in the widest sense to enhance and deliver ecosystem services; carbon, water, biodiversity, and socioeconomic benefits.

Clive has considerable experience in strategic direction setting, management of substantial staff and financial resources, adapting to and leading change, and formulation and management of complex multi-disciplinary research initiatives involving multilateral and, often, international partnerships.

He currently Chairs the Project Platypus Landcare network, an umbrella organisation with salaried staff that facilitates and coordinates the activities of 11 Landcare Groups. Clive has been a Board member the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) Sustainable Production Forestry, and Future Forests Research Ltd (NZ).
